KOCHI: The trade union movement is getting marginalised under the globalisation drive, M.K. Pandhe, CITU president, has said. He was inaugurating the State convention of the Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers at the Town Hall here on Thursday. Citing a study made by the International Labour Organisation, Mr. Pandhe said the process of globalisation was not possible without marginalisation of the trade unions.
`Working under attack'
The working class was constantly under attack and this situation had to be properly studied. While the expert committee appointed by the ILO noted that unequal trade relations were leading to inequalities in human conditions, supporters of the globalisation process here maintained that disparity in growth rate between our country and developed countries was because of the differences in productivity, he said. Everywhere, the government was seen as a model employer. And when the Government went for downsizing, the situation could not be better in private sector. Now, the Government was working on the lines of bringing in a law to remove job security and promote `hire-and-fire' culture. Secretary general of the Confederation K.K.N. Kutty delivered a keynote address. K. Kamalasanan, State president of the Confederation, presided. The convention was held to discuss the issues raised by the globalisation drive and also about the national strike on December 14 called by sponsoring committee for trade unions.
