MCD squads seal 123 properties

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi sealed 123 properties on Thursday as part of the ongoing sealing drive against commercial premises in the Capital's residential areas.

Most of these were in Shahdara (South) Zone and Najafgarh Zone. Since November 8 the MCD squads have sealed 2,789 properties on orders of the Supreme Court.

Plea for more night shelters

NEW DELHI: Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan has urged the Delhi Government to make arrangements for night shelters in sufficient numbers across the Capital in view of the onset of winter.

Dr. Vardhan said every day 1.62 lakh people sleep under the open sky in Delhi. "There are 18 night shelters, including 10 run by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, but these are totally inadequate. They provide shelter to only about 2,760 people."

CPI(ML) supports Singur farmers

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist)-New Democracy took out a rally from Mandi House to Bengal Bhavan on Hailey Road here on Wednesday protesting against forcible displacement of farmers at Singur in West Bengal.

Addressing the rally, speakers condemned "police repression" in Singur. They also dismissed the West Bengal Government's claim that the local people were in favour of acquisition.

Exhibition on health issues

NEW DELHI: The National Institute of Open Schooling is organising a three-day exhibition of graphics on reproductive and sexual health concerns of adolescents at Dilli Haat here beginning Friday.

The Institute is organising several street plays on themes of gender insensitivity, peer pressure, human rights and child labour in collaboration with the Vasundhra branch of Delhi Public School today. Films on these topics produced by DPS students will be screened on Sunday. .

A musical evening

NEW DELHI: Jansanskriti is organising a musical evening by Mohan Kumar at Triveni Kala Sangam here on Friday to celebrate the 50th birth anniversary of Kerala.

Mohan Kumar held his first Hindustani concert at Tansen Sangeet Samaroh in Thiruvanthapuram in 1993 and over the past 14 years has performed at several festivals including Swathi Thirunal Music Festival.
