Delhi-Haryana bid to sort out bus row

Staff Reporter

Traffic cops to record challaning of buses

NEW DELHI: The Delhi traffic police would now video-graph the challaning of buses belonging to Haryana Roadways to curb alleged arbitrariness in this regard. This was decided at a meeting between senior officials of the Delhi traffic police and Haryana Transport Department at Police Headquarters here on Thursday.

According to a Haryana Government spokesperson, the meeting took place between Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Qamar Ahmed and Haryana Finance Commissioner and Principal Secretary (Transport) Ramendra Jakhu and Haryana Transport Commissioner M. Ramsekhar.

It was decided at the meeting that the challaning data would be analysed minutely to identify the causes for the same and steps would be taken to remove the potential trouble spots. Road signs at the borders would also be improved, the spokesperson said.

Further, while the Delhi traffic police would take part in a road safety-cum-drivers' training workshop, Haryana Roadways would organise similar workshops for its drivers to share the concerns of the traffic police. Quarterly review meetings would also be held between the two departments to take stock of the progress. It was also decided that a dossier of violators would be maintained so that action can be taken against them.

Mr. Jakhu said keeping in view the convenience of the passengers, Haryana Roadways would request the Transport Department of the Delhi Government to construct small, secondary bus stands at peripheral points like Karnal Mor, Peeragarhi, Dhaula Kuan and Ashram.
