HYDERABAD: To check the rampant use of spurious LPG gas kits in vehicle, the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) is planning to include the details pertaining to the gas kits in the Registration Certificate Book of the vehicles. The RTA has already instructed the authorised gas conversion dealers in the city to issue temporary cards containing the details, including the name of the supplier, serial number of the kit etc to the customers and is presently working on a software to include all the details in the Registration Certificate Book. Nearly 50,000 vehicles and 25,000 autorickshaws are operating on LPG gas kits in the city and there are 15 authorised LPG gas conversion dealers. While it costs around Rs. 20,000 for a vehicle to be converted into a gas kit operated mode by an authorised dealer, the same is done for Rs. 10,000 by unauthorised dealers. "The move will enable us to check the meddling of kit components and ascertain the quality compliance of the kits," Joint Transport Commissioner B. Venkateswarlu said. Above all, it will help us in detecting vehicles using domestic gas cylinders and a special drive is being carried out in association with Civil Supplies Department, Mr. Venkateswarlu added.
