HYDERABAD: Two persons suffered grievous injuries after a train hit their Lancer car at an unmanned railway crossing at Piloniguda village in Shamshabad on Thursday. Thirty-eight-year-old Hameeduddin Khan, a businessman and resident of Dabeepura, and his companion, who is yet to be identified, were coming towards Hyderabad when the Hazrat Nizamuddin Express from New Delhi to Tirupati rammed into the car at 11 a.m., resulting in severe injuries to them. Villagers later shifted them to a corporate hospital at Nampally where their condition is said to be serious. Mild tension prevailed when villagers stopped the train for more than four hours demanding the railway authorities to immediately construct a gate. Over 500 villagers squatted on the tracks and raised slogans denouncing the apathetic attitude of the officials. Many villagers travel through this railway crossing, as it is a short cut to Hyderabad from Shamshabad. But there is no railway gate or guard to prevent motorists from crossing the tracks when a train arrives. The protestors called off their agitation after railway officials promised that a gate would be constructed by December 19. The train left the place at 3 p.m.
