New traffic regulations

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: The city police have introduced changes in the traffic pattern on the Ethiraj Salai-Pantheon Road and the Greames Road-College Road junctions in Egmore.

The new arrangements, to be tried out for a month, will be in force from Saturday.

According to a police study, Egmore had become congested during peak hours. It was found that the four-phase regulation at the Greames Road-College Road junction was a major cause for the traffic bottleneck.

A press note said on Thursday that vehicles from Anderson bridge would not be allowed to turn right at the junction of Ethiraj Salai and Pantheon Road between 4 and 8 p.m. They will be allowed to take Pantheon Road, Montieth Road and Marshalls Road to reach Ethiraj Salai.

Vehicles from Moore Street would not be allowed to enter Egmore or turn right into Greames Road.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sunil Kumar said a decision would be taken whether or not to continue the changes, based on the feedback received. .
