Special team nabs burglars
Staff Reporter
TAMBARAM
: A special team formed to investigate burglary cases has arrested two men in Adambakkam.
One of them was reportedly involved in 46 cases all over the State and was released only recently from prison, where he served a seven-and-a-half-year sentence.
Police said the team was on routine rounds in Adambakkam area and zeroed in on a house at Jeevan Nagar following an information about the movement of two suspicious men in a house.
Just as the police swooped on the house, one of the men, Venkatesan, tried to flee but was nabbed by the police. A. Arun, Deputy Commissioner of Police, St. Thomas Mount district, and a special team searched the house and nabbed one more youth, Sasikumar, who was hiding below a cot.
Investigations revealed that Sasikumar had come out from prison soon after Deepavali and committed offences in seven places in different areas of the city's suburbs.
The police have also recovered jewels weighing close to 50 sovereigns from 30-year-old Sasikumar. He used to target locked houses and would gain entry into them by breaking open either the rear or front door.
Police are also searching for some more men who had helped the two youths by receiving their jewellery and giving them cash in return after selling them.
