MANGALORE: The Dakshina Kannada district Anti-Rowdy Squad, which was disbanded in mid-November following complaints against its personnel, has been reconstituted. Superintendent of Police B. Dayananda has instructed five police personnel, including one head constable and four constables, to report to Mangalore North Circle Police Inspector Umesh G. Shet. Mr. Shet will head the squad under Mr. Dayananda's guidance. The personnel drafted into the squad are police head constable from Urwa police station Abdul Rahman, Omdas from Mulky police station, Prashanth from Mangalore East police station, Damodhar from Mangalore North police station and Vijay Suvarna from Belthangady police station.
More appointments
Barring Mr. Rahman, the rest are police constables. At least five more police personnel are likely to be drafted into the squad soon.
In-house arrangement
Inspector-General of Police (Western Range) H.N. Sathyanarayana Rao told The Hindu here on Wednesday that it was an in-house arrangement made by the police department to deal with exigencies, Mr. Rao said the staffing pattern had been left to the discretion of the district SP. Complaints of partisan behaviour of squad personnel during the recent communal riots had forced it to be disbanded last month.
