Seminar for chartered accountants

Kochi: The Ernakulam branch of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India is organising a one-day seminar on Saturday. It will be inaugurated by T.K. Chandrasekhara Das, Ombudsman for Local Self-Government at 9.30 a.m. M. Ramachandran from Kochi and V. Venugopal from Thrissur will chair the two sessions. Experts like K.S. Ravisankar from Bangalore, R. Venkataraman, General Manager, Lord Krishna Bank, and R. Vittal Raj, expert in information technology, would be presenting papers. About 500 CAs from all over the State are expected to participate.

Attack on doctor flayed

Kochi: Representatives of the State branch of Indian Medical Association have condemned the attack on the duty doctor at Kodungallur Taluk Hospital. The incident occurred when a patient died in the hospital and a few anti-social elements took to violence. They also threatened the other doctors who were present. Government doctors are working with limited facilities and such incidents would further affect the health services. The Government should immediately raise the working facilities of the hospitals in the Government sector, the IMA demanded.

Fire-fighting tug

KOCHI: Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) delivered the last fire-fighting tug for the Jeddah Port Authority, Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday, completing the delivery of vessels in the second major export order bagged by the shipyard for constructing nine fire-fighting tugs. The order was singed in June 2003 and the vessels were delivered on schedule, said a press release from CSL here on Thursday. The yard has also been entrusted with constructing India's first indigenous aircraft carrier for the Indian Navy.

Insurance scheme

KOCHI: Canara Bank has introduced an innovative Family Health Insurance Scheme, CanMediclaim, in association with United India Insurance Company Limited. It is a unique mediclaim-cum-personal accident policy, being offered at a low premium, the bank said in a press release. The scheme is available for all customers of the bank on voluntary basis. `Cashless service' is being made available under tie-up with selected hospitals. Income tax exemption is also allowed under the scheme.
