Examination schedule announced

Thiruvananthapuram: The Christmas examination for second year higher secondary will commence on December 15, according to an announcement by the secretary, examination board. The part I English will be held on December 16 and second language on December 22. The examinations scheduled to be held on December 11 and 22 will be held on January 1. — Staff Reporter

Students drown in Veli lake

Thiruvananthapuram: Two students of Karikkakam Government School, drowned in Veli lake on Thursday afternoon. Niyaz, 13, and Deepu, 14, residents of Karikkakam, and seven others from the school had gone to Veli. Though all of them got into the water, Niyaz and Deepu, got drowned. The Fire and Rescue Services personnel retrieved the bodies.

Woman killed in gas cylinder explosion

Thiruvananthapuram: An 80-year-old woman was killed when a cooking gas cylinder exploded in the apartment in which she was staying at Ambalamukku on Thursday. The police identified the deceased as Dr. Snehalatha Karunakaran. The incident occurred in the morning. The Fire and Rescue Department suspect that the explosion was caused due to a leak in the cylinder.
