TTD information centre planned at Gangtok

Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI: Sikkim Governor V. Rama Rao on Friday informally broached with the TTD a proposal to set up a temple-cum-information centre at Gangtok, capital of the Himalayan State. Mr. Rao, who was here on a pilgrimage to Tirumala, held preliminary discussion in this regard with the TTD Board Chairman B. Karunakara Reddy.

Both the Governor and the TTD official agreed in principle to go ahead with the project and felt that the complex could well become a spiritual hub for the North-Eastern region.

Mr. Rao also held discussions with Bhuman, Director of the TTD's Digital Library and SVETA, regarding another proposal to set up a digitisation centre at Gangtok to protect and preserve some rare and ancient palm leaf and other manuscripts for posterity.

The Sikkim Governor sought the TTD's help in the form of coordination to make the centre a reality, possibly by next year.
