UDUMALPET: More than 100 activists of Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (PDK) and Adhi Thamizhar Peravai (ATP) staged a demonstration in front of the taluk office here on Friday. They demanded that those dumping hazardous biomedical waste on farmlands near here should be arrested. The agitators led by PDK district secretary K. Karumalaiappan, governing council member Pollachi R. Manoharan and ATP district secretary T.S. Gopal urged the authorities to draw a comprehensive strategy to prevent dumping of biomedical waste allegedly from Kerala into border villages. They alleged that the culprits were dumping waste on farmlands and roadsides in the wee hours. As the waste dumped in Thungavi, Metrathi, and Thanthoni near here could spread diseases, they demanded that they be removed and disposed of in safe places.
