Rs. 6.45 lakh sanctioned for developing horticulture

"161 beneficiaries are given 197.41 acres of government poromboke land in September"

VIRUDHUNAGAR : The State Government sanctioned Rs. 6.45 lakh for creating irrigation sources, horticultural plantation and drip irrigation system for the benefit of a cluster of agricultural lands that had been distributed to landless agricultural families.

In a statement, the Collector, S. S. Jawahar, said that 161 beneficiaries had been given 197.41 acres of the government poromboke land in September.

The district administration identified a cluster of land measuring 40 acres in Arasipatti village in Rajapalayam taluk that would be distributed to agricultural families. It also proposed to create common irrigation sources, five borewells and a drip irrigation system.

The The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board would provide free power supply to the borewells. Lift irrigation societies would be formed to unite the beneficiaries. The project would be implemented through the Departments of Agricultural Engineering and Horticulture.

Applications invited

The district administration has invited applications under the Anna Marumalarchi scheme for processing fruits, producing fodder, producing fertilizer, making ropes and other agro-based activities in the district (other than Rajapalayam taluk).

The beneficiaries would get 15 per cent subsidy on the cost of machinery.

The units consuming low tension power would get 30 per cent, 20 per cent and 10 per cent subsidy on power charges for the first three years respectively.

In a statement, the Collector said that the units that employed more than 30 per cent women employees would get an additional subsidy of five per cent.

Interested persons should apply in the prescribed application form and submit it to the General Manager, District Industries Centre, Collectorate, Virudhunagar.
