Era of Maoists over in Anantapur, says Superintendent of Police

BACK TO MAINSTREAM: Anantapur SP M.S. Ravindra and OSD G. Vijaykumar with eight surrendered Maoists at Anantapur on Saturday.

ANANTAPUR: Superintendent of Police M.S. Ravindra on Saturday said that the era of Maoists was over in the district and it would take not less than three decades to reconstruct the movement and regain the lost ground. He made this claim after eight Maoists, including three `commanders', surrendered before him.

Talking to mediapersons, he said lack of moral leadership and mindless violence had distanced the Maoists from people.

Mr. Ravindra further said that the elimination of Maoists in the district had become possible only with the sincere cooperation from people. It was like a silent revolution, he said.

The surrendered Maoists were identified as Pattabhi alias Mahesh of Gunipalli in Bukkapatnam mandal, E. Narayana alias Bhupathi of Kamalapuram, Muthyalu alias Chandra of Keshavapuram in Garladinne mandal, Muthyalamma alias Geeta of P.R. Kottala, Nagesh alias Anji of Peruru, B. Manjunatha alias Prasad of Peruru in Ramagiri mandal, T. Malati alias Bhagya of Baddalapuram in Kanaganapalli mandal and Rajasekhar alias Vasu of Ganginepalli in C.K.Palli mandal.

Pattabhi had worked as `commander' of Gandikota dalam, Narayana as special guerrilla squad `commander' and Rajasekhar as Kotakonda `commander'.

The surrendered Maoists said they were attracted to the party by speeches, and songs of the dalam members, apart from personal problems. Moral degradation of the leaders also contributed to the surrender, they said.
