BJP cadres burn DK flag, portrait

DINDIGUL : Bharatiya Janata Party cadres burnt a flag of the Dravidar Kazhagam and a portrait of Periyar E.V. Ramasamy, founder of the party and Tamil rationalist leader, in front of the Dindigul central bus stand on Saturday in protest against burning of an effigy of Sankaracharya.

The police arrested 26 party men. Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police, A. Pari, warned that stern action would be initiated under the National Security Act against persons damaging places of worship and disrupting peace and harmony. Cadres of the DK burnt an effigy of Kanchi Acharya in front of the Dindigul municipality on Friday.

The Superintendent of Police, Kannan, has issued severe warning against those who try to disturb communal harmony.

The Ramanathapuram Superintendent of Police said antisocial elements would be closely monitored.
