Going gets tough for small papers, says Potturi Venkateswara Rao

Rajahmundry: Small newspapers have been facing a lot of hardship to sustain them in view of unhealthy competition among dailies, said former chairman of Press Academy Potturi Venkateswara Rao here today.

Deliverying keynote address at the 80th anniversary celebrations of `Praja Patrika' socio-political weekly Mr. Venkateswara Rao said small newspapers in Rajahmundry, which is familiar as capital for them, were still maintaining credibility and ethics, which are not followed even by some dailies in the country.

. Mr. Rao observed that "bringing out a newspaper nowadays is not an easy task. Earlier they were for a cause, now they became a commodity." Nellore Dolendra Prasad, editor of `Teja' news weekly and `Zamin Rytu' political weekly, felt that people would trust print media rather than electronic media.

Jayadheer Tirumala Rao, Director of State Archeological Library, said some newspapers were influencing political parties and governments. He said there was a great responsibility on the shoulders of small newspapers to carry out the present events as history to future generations. Ramnarayana, Dr. Karri Rama Reddy, MLA R. Suryaprakasha Rao, Editor S. Devi Sudarsan, Advisor S. Sudarshan also spoke on this occasion.

Later, Mr. Venkateswara Rao released a book titled `Chevralu'. Sarva Siksha Abhiyan district additional coordinator Mr. D.N. Murthy was felicitated on this occasion.
