CHENNAI: The Deshratna Dr. Rajendra Prasad Memorial Trust celebrated the 122nd birth anniversary of Rajendra Prasad, first President of the Indian Republic, last week. Participating in the function held at Rajendra Babu Bhavan at Gopalapuram, Finance Minister K. Anbazhagan highlighted the simplicity and patriotism of Rajendra Prasad. He also spoke about Rajendra Prasad's enthusiasm to learn languages. Mr. Anbazaghan later distributed prizes to winners of competitions that were conducted. K. Rajaram, former State Industries Minister, spoke about the early life of Rajendra Prasad, and his contribution to the freedom movement. He recalled his participation in the Champaran Satyagraha, which proved a turning point in the man's life as a freedom fighter. Shobhakant Das, Managing Trustee of the organisation, said that the trust, which was established in 1983, has been serving as a bridge between south and north India. The Rajendra Babu Bhavan is engaged in various social service activities.Scholarships and medical aid worth Rs.2 lakh was later distributed on the occasion.
