MANGALORE: Janata Dal (Secular) and its leaders H.D. Deve Gowda and Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy are the biggest threat to the smooth functioning of democracy in the State, said Congress MP Janardhan Poojary here on Saturday. Their "anti-democratic attitude" came to the fore during the byelection in Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency, he said. He was speaking to presspersons after celebrating the 60th birthday of Congress president Sonia Gandhi at Infant Jesus Convent here. Mr. Poojary said that the JD (S) had lost all values as it had joined hands with communal parties such as BJP. It had worked with Sangh Parivar organisations for disrupting the democratic process in the byelection, he said. JD (S) Minister Chennigappa had manhandled a pressperson and obstructed the Election Commission from performing its duty, he alleged. Siddaramaiah's victory proved that Congerss was the last hope for people who believed in democracy, he added. As part of the celebrations Mr. Poojary distributed sweets, fruits and clothes at the convent, `Abhaya Ashraya' at Asaigoli in Konaje village, and at `Yathim Khana' in Bunder area in the city. He was accompanied by Mayor Vijaya Arun.
