RGUHS, Kidwai institute sign MoU

Staff Correspondent

MANGALORE: Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bangalore, to use the expertise of the institute to promote research activities among teachers of the RGUHS, according to Registrar of the university Vasanth Kumar S.

Speaking after inaugurating a homoeopathic conference at Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College, Deralakatte, on Saturday, he said though the university did not have a building of its own to start research activities, it would use Kidwai institute for the purpose. The Government had reserved land for the university to house its research wing, he said.

He said the university wanted to "go in an elaborate way" in research activities to strengthen clinical research.

Dr. Kumar said that medical institutes should continue to organise continued medical education (CME) programmes to update the knowledge of teachers and students. He said that awareness on homoeopathy treatment was limited to urban areas. Doctors and medical institutes should spread the awareness in rural areas, he added. He said that homoeopathy should become a part of integrated medicine and treatment.

Aloysius Paul D'Souza, Bishop of Mangalore, said the university should encourage homoeopathy along with allopathy in medical institutes. Baptist Menezes, director of Father Muller Institute of Health Sciences; Stany Tauro, administrator of the college; and S.K. Tiwari, principal of the college, spoke. Delegates from different parts of the country and Sri Lanka attended the conference.
