Doha: India leads by a full point from China after beating Vietnam 2.5-0.5 in the fourth round of the 3-board Asian Team chess championship. Five more rounds remain. On Sunday, India will take on China with black pieces on the first and third boards and white on the second. Sasikiran's game against Grandmaster Dao Thien Hai hinged on Dao's knight outpost on c4. Sasikiran systematically undermined it and Dao lost a pawn in the process. After 42 moves Dao resigned. Koneru Humpy controlled the only open c-file against Nguyen Thi Thanh An and dominated the game. Harikrishna started aggressively but Nguyen Anh Dung cleverly transposed the game to an advantageous ending. Hari played with his back to the wall and reached a rook ending a pawn down. But amazingly he was able to draw as the white rook was in front of his pawn and not behind it. Team standings after Round 4: 1. India 10; 2. China 9; 3. Qatar 8.5; 4. Vietnam 7.5; 5-8. Indonesia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Iran 7; 9-11. Syria, Turkmenistan, UAE 6.5; 12-13. Philippines, Jordan 6; 14. Mongolia 5; 15-17. Bangladesh, Bahrain, Japan 4.5; 18-19. Sri Lanka, Palestine 4; 20. Nepal 3.5; 21. Macau 1.5.
