BANGALORE: Problems related to the movement of sand-laden lorries in residential areas off Old Madras Road and the movement of heavy vehicles on service roads were among issues brought out by people in the citizens' traffic committee meeting held on Saturday.

Residents from K.R. Puram, Pai Layout, Pillanna Garden, D.J. Halli, Kasturi Nagar, Tannery Road and Shivaji Nagar participated in the meeting organised by the city's Traffic (East) sub-division. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-East) M.A. Saleem heard the problems.

A resident of Pai Layout said parking of sand-laden lorries in the layout was hindering movement of traffic. He asked for the police to identify an area for parking the lorries. Mr. Saleem said a place had been identified near Kacharakanahalli and the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike had been asked to build a parking bay. A resident of N.R. Layout narrated problems owing to the parking of lorries bringing materials to the Food Corporation of India. The resident asked the police to provide a right turn near Gangenahalli bridge, which, apart from Pai Layout residents, helps residents of Shakti Nagar and Uday Nagar. The police did not agree saying that the measure will hinder the smooth flow of traffic on Old Madras Road.

Rajashekar of Kalyan Nagar Welfare Association asked for posting of constables at two points for regulating movement of traffic near ITC Infotech. R. Raman, another resident of Kalyan Nagar, spoke of the hindrance being caused near Banaswadi bridge and Ayappa Temple because of parking of vehicles on both sides of the road. He asked the police to take steps to regulate such parking. He said heavy vehicle movement on service road was causing problems for those going on morning walk.
