HUBLI: In order to compete in the global market, women entrepreneurs need to maintain quality and consistency in their field of production and services, entrepreneur Tejaswini Ananthkumar has said. She was speaking after inaugurating the Women Entrepreneurs' Wing of the Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) here on Saturday.
`Shocking'
The contribution of women entrepreneurs to the Indian economy is only three per cent, which is really shocking. This is because the services of women are not being properly evaluated, she said. Sharing her experience as an entrepreneur, Ms. Tejaswini spoke about the various hurdles she had to face initially. She said that women can be good entrepreneurs and it would be proved in the days to come. Uma Reddy, chairperson of Women's Wing, Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FKCCI) called on the women entrepreneurs to join mainstream associations of commerce and industries in order to increase their base. Women should make concerted efforts to achieve better results in their respective fields of trade and commerce, she said. However he opined that the contribution of women entrepreneurs to the economy is not recognised properly as the most of the businesses run by women are informal.
`Good step'
Presiding over the function, Shankranna Munavalli, president, KCCI, said the setting up of the women's wing was a step towards educating and helping women entrepreneurs regarding the benefits provided to them by the Government and also to help them expand their area of operation. Radhika Gokhale, chairperson of Women's Wing explained the objectives of the wing. Kishore Shah, consultant and Kumar Tiwari, manager, Export Promotion Cell, KCCI, addressed the women entrepreneurs.
