`Awareness checks rights violation'

Staff reporter

Role of lawyers highlighted

KHAMMAM: Justice N.V. Ramana, High Court Judge, has appealed to the advocate fraternity to strive for educating people on human rights.

Addressing the seventh State conference of the Indian Association of Lawyers here, he said violation of human rights being perpetrated in different forms could be stopped only by creating awareness. He said human rights should be protected by all means as they were achieved by making great sacrifices.

He said human rights were being subjected to violation every minute at one place or the other. He pointed out that disparities were growing further, thanks to the economic reforms and globalisation. People in the remote villages were facing scarcity conditions while international airports were coming up elsewhere. He said that the judiciary had been transparent in its functioning but it had its own constraints.

IAL State president and senior advocate of the High Court C. Padmanabha Reddy said in his address that a person could be considered to be enjoying human rights when his minimum needs were met and leading a respectable life.

District Judge E. Jagannadha Reddy and IAL district president Potla Madhava Rao were among those who took part.
