CHENNAI : Several artistes were conferred awards for their contribution towards Carnatic music at the music festival organised SHI-BA Sangeetha Sabha at Villivakkam for the succesive third year. The eight-day festival that started from December 1 had Maharajapuram S. Srinivasan honoured with the `Sangeetha Sahrudaya Seva Ratna' award on the inaugural day. The award comprised a cash prize of Rs.5,000 and citation. Latha Ramchand was conferred the `Sangeetha Sahrudaya Sevika Mani' award that comprised a gold medal and citation. Renowned mridangam artiste Thiruvarur Bhakthachalam and J.Srinivasan, senior manager of Sundaram Brakes Linings participated. Besides concerts of senior artistes including Thiruvarur Bhakthavatchalam, Ganesh and Kumaresh, Thyagarajan and Atul Kumar, the sabha also organised contests for children such as vocal music, instrumental music and devotional music. The valedictory function on Friday had dancer Muralidharan presiding over and distributing prizes to the winners.
