Jet to operate flights to Bangkok

The airline will offer special inaugural fare


  • To expand operations to the U.S., Canada
  • Plans to fly to New York via Brussels

    NEW DELHI: Jet Airways on Monday announced 14 direct weekly flights to Bangkok from Delhi and Kolkata, beginning January 2007.

    Jet Airways Chief Executive Officer Wolfgang Prock-Schauer said the airline would connect Bangkok with daily flights from Delhi and Kolkata from January 23. Bangkok will be the third destination in the ASEAN region and 50th on the airline's network.

    The airline is poised to expand its operations to the U.S., Canada, South Africa and Kenya next year.

    Wide-bodied jetliners

    With the induction of 22 wide-bodied jetliners in its fleet in a phased manner over the next two years, Jet Airways plans to fly to New York via Brussels in August next and connect a second American city, preferably San Francisco, through a flight from Shanghai.

    Mr. Prock-Schauer said the international routes were likely to contribute higher revenues and the airline could look at having equal contribution from the domestic and international sectors by 2008-09.

    As part of its inaugural offer on flights to Bangkok, the airline will offer a special return fare of Rs. 6,500 on the Kolkata-Bangkok-Kolkata sector for a two-month period, while on the Delhi-Bangkok-Delhi sector, the fare will start at Rs. 13,500.

    There will also be a special fare for a family of four travelling together in the economy class on this sector.

    Incidentally, airport taxes and surcharges will come to around Rs. 4,200 per ticket on the sector which will have Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 24 business class seats and 126 in the economy class.
