KARAIKAL: All the six MLAs of Karaikal district in the Union Territory on Monday have decided to boycott the Assembly session that begins from December 15. They stated that Karaikal region had continuously been neglected on all matters including development and recruitment in Government services.

The decision was taken at a meeting convened here by A.M.H. Nazeem (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam), leader of the Opposition in the Assembly and MLA of Karaikal North. All the other MLAs of Karaikal district namely V. Omalingam (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) of Kottucherry Assembly constituency, V.K. Mr. Nazeem told The Hindu that all the six MLAs had also decided not to participate in any Government function until a policy decision was taken by the Government to make due reservation for Karaikal district candidates in the recruitment to Government posts.

They pointed out that Karaikal region was getting step-motherly treatment. He said that the MLAs had been repeatedly representing in the Legislative Assembly and in other meetings held under the Lt. Governor and the Chief Minister that Karaikal had continuously been neglected. But to avail

Mr. Nazeem pointed out that all the MLAs on Monday discussed in detail about the recent recruitment to various Government and why adequate number of candidates from Karaikal region were not selected.

He said that out of 25 candidates selected for post of deputy tahsildar last year only one belonged to the Karaikal region.

In the recruitment of police constables, only five candidates were selected from Karaikal region out of 111 candidates selected in the Union Territory.

The MLAs had decided to meet the Lt. Governor and the Chief Minister soon to press their demands, Mr. Nazeem said.
