Rangasamy pays tributes to Subramania Bharathiar

Poet's 124th birth anniversary celebrated in Puducherry

HOMAGE TO MAHAKAVI: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy pays floral tributes to Bharathiar's statue on the occasion of the poet's 124th birth anniversary in Puducherry on Monday.

Puducherry: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy garlanded the statue of "Mahakavi" Subramania Bharathiar on the occasion of the poet's 124th birth anniversary on Monday.

Education Minister M.O.H.F. Shahjahan, Pattali Makkal Katchi legislator R. Anandaraman and officials of the Department of Information and Publicity and a host of representatives of literary associations were among those who paid tributes at the statue of Bharathiar.

The Chief Minister and the Education Minister later paid homage at the portrait of the poet in the Bharathiar Museum and Research Centre housed on the premises, where the poet lived during his sojourn in Puducherry in the early part of 20th Century.

Education Minister told newsmen that Bharathiar was pride of the nation and it was duty of everyone to pay tributes to him without fail on important occasions like the poet's birth anniversary.

Office-bearers of the Pudhuvai Tamizh Sangam and representatives of various organisations championing the cause of Tamil were among those who paid floral tributes at the portrait. A team of musicians presented lyrics penned by Bharathiar as a highlight of the celebration at the Museum. Legislature Party leader of the Puducherry Munnetra Congress K. Lakshminarayanan along with N. Anandhu MLA and PMC's office-bearers paid tributes at the portrait of the poet at a function held on the premises of PMC office.

The 125th birth anniversary of Tamil poet Bharathiar was observed under the aegis of the Cuddalore District Bharathidasan Manram here on Monday. At a function held at Durga Training College under the presidentship of Kadal Nagarajan, S. Gnanabharathi, Special Officer, Cuddalore District Cooperative Land Development Bank, unveiled the portrait of Bharathiar. K. Ilangovan, Public Relations Officer of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd gave away prizes and certificates to the winners of various competitions held in this connection.
