Amar emerges champion

BANGALORE: V. Amar claimed the men's singles title in the Bangalore City Institute State-ranking badminton championship with a 21-16, 21-10 victory over Ajit Wijetilak in the final at the BCI courts here.

M.D. Anup Kiran and Ashwini Ponnappa emerged champions in the boys' and girls' under-19 sections respectively. Ashwini defeated V. Ruth Misha, the women's singles champion, in the final 21-17, 21-17, while Anup scored a 22-20, 11-21, 21-18 victory over B.S. Phalgun in the boys singles final.

Shamsundar wins

J.N. Shamsundar of KPSCB and V. Latha of RBI emerged champions in the men and women's sections respectively in the Suvarna Karnataka Rajyotsava State-ranking carrom championship here last week.

Shamsundar defeated Wilson 25-16, 25-11 in the men's final and in the women's title clash, V. Latha humbled Malathy Ramesh 25-13, 0-25, 25-16.
