French award for Alka Pande

NEW DELHI: In recognition of her contribution to Indian culture and development of Indo-French cooperation in the field of art, the French Government will honour academician Alka Pande with the Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters Award at a function here on Tuesday.

French Ambassador Dominique Girard will confer the award on Dr. Pande and also launch her book, "The New-Age Kamasutra For Women''.

Seminar on cancer

NEW DELHI: In an attempt to find new ways to deal with cancer, Rockland Hospital here organised an intensive seminar on early diagnosis and prevention of the dreaded disease this past weekend. The seminar brought together over a hundred doctors to deliberate on the issue.

Stating that some cancer could be categorised as a lifestyle disease, Chairman of Oncology Services at Rockland Hospital Dr. K. K. Pandey pointed out that changing working habits, new work environment, sedentary lifestyle, mental and physical stress precipitate changes at the cellular level predisposed to cancerous lesions.

"Take short walks"

NEW DELHI: Taking a few short walks in a day to lower the blood pressure may be more beneficial than one long walk, according to Heart Care Foundation of India president K.K.Aggarwal.

"Taking four 10-minute walks can be more effective than one 40-minute walk. Though both decrease the blood pressure of a person by the same amount, the effect in the case of the short walks lasts longer,'' Dr. Aggarwal said quoting a new study by Indiana University researchers published in the Journal of Hypertension.

Convocation held

NEW DELHI: The Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) held its ninth convocation here over the weekend. An opportunity to honour the best and the brightest, the convocation was attended by leading names in the industry.

Union Minister of State for Labour Oscar Fernandes was the chief guest at the convocation.

Annual sports day

NEW DELHI: Vishwa Bharati Public School, Noida, celebrated its annual sports day at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium here this past week.

The event was attended by a large number of students in various synchronised and coordinated drills and folk dances besides field and track events.
