212 mandals declared drought-hit

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Government issued orders on Monday declaring 212 mandals in nine districts across the State drought-affected following unseasonal conditions in 2006-07. The mandals are spread over Prakasam (24), Chittoor (32), Kadapa (32), Anantapur (24), Kurnool (27), Mahabubnagar (27), Medak (nine), Nalgonda (32) and Ranga Reddy (five) districts. The GO 1842 issued by Preeti Sudan, Commissioner, Disaster Management, said the decision to declare the mandals drought-hit was taken keeping in view the reports received from the Agricultural Department, Bureau of Economics and Statistics and Collectors. According to the GO, some Collectors had stated that certain mandals received scanty/deficit rainfall and had dry spell and agricultural stress.
