The 600-year-old idol of Shani Dev
NEW DELHI: A 600-year-old "ashtha-dthatu'' idol of Lord Shani Dev, valued at about Rs.5 crore in the international market, has been seized from the Walled City of Delhi area by the Special Staff of the Delhi police. Two persons, including a lawyer, have been arrested. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Delhi) Alok Kumar, the Special Staff received a tip-off that a man was trying to dispose of an antique idol in the Walled City area. Subsequently a trap was laid and the accused was arrested. During interrogation, the accused identified himself as Khurshid Anwar and disclosed that he had received the idol from Kesar Ali, who turned out to be an advocate at Seelampur Revenue Court. Kesar allegedly offered Anwar a share in the deal if he found a buyer for the antique idol. Lured by the prospect of making quick money, Anwar purportedly agreed to find a customer. At Anwar's instance, the police arrested Kesar. During interrogation, he purportedly revealed that he had bought the idol from Harish, a property dealer in Ghaziabad.
