dated December 13, 1956: Rajaratnam Pillai dead

We regret to record the death of Vidwan Tiruvaduthurai N. Rajaratnam Pillai, nathaswara vidwan of South India, in Madras on December 12 after a brief illness. Rajaratnam Pillai was the recipient of the Presidential award for instrumental music two years ago. He was suffering from heart trouble for the past six months and had undergone treatment at the General Hospital. After completion of his treatment, he had been giving performances in spite of the advice of the doctors. On December 11, he returned from Alleppey after giving a performance there. In the evening, he had been requested to attend a drama at which he was to be presented with the day's collections, but he could not go as he was not well. The next morning he passed away.
