Janardhan Reddy withdraws petition

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday permitted the suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLC from Bellary Janardhan Reddy to withdraw his petition seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation against Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, Home Minister M.P. Prakash, Forest Minister Chennigappa and others.

Mr. Janardhan Reddy had, on August 23, filed a writ petition against the Ministers alleging that they had accepted illegal gratification from mine owners in Bellary.

He had sought an inquiry from an independent agency, saying that the police in the State would not be able to do justice. The case had come up before a single judge who had, on October 23, said the petition was in the nature of public interest and referred it to a Division Bench.

On Monday, C.V. Nagesh, counsel for Mr. Janardhan Reddy, filed a memo in the High Court seeking to withdraw the petition as the MLC had filed a similar petition before the Supreme Court.

When the matter came up today, Mr. Janardhan Reddy requested the court to permit him to withdraw the case so that he could pursue it in the Supreme Court. A Division Bench, comprising Justice H.L. Dattu and Justice Anand Byrareddy, dismissed the petition as withdrawn.
