Sindhia criticises Kumaraswamy for `falling standards' of governance

Staff Reporter

`The Chief Minister has failed to recognise efficient officers'

BANGALORE: Suspended Janata Dal (S) MLA and former Minister P.G.R. Sindhia on Tuesday criticised Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy for the "falling standards" of governance in the State as he (Mr. Kumaraswamy) had failed to recognise efficient officers by putting them in responsible positions to deliver the goods.

Speaking at a meet-the-press programme organised by the Bangalore Urban District unit of the Karnataka Union of Working Journalists, Mr. Sindhia said that it was a pity that the Chief Minister had to openly express his helplessness in handling bureaucrats.

He could not run the State by merely issuing circulars, Mr. Sindhia said. The former Finance Minister said that Mr. Kumaraswamy should resurrect the files sent by the Lokayukta to him recommending disciplinary action against senior officers facing corruption charges.

Mr. Sindhia thanked Mr. Yediyurappa for implementing distributing cycles to schoolchildren and also increasing revenue by plugging loopholes for which he had initiated measures. Contrasting the transfer policy during his tenure as Home and Transport Minister, he said the Ministers now were interfering at all levels of administration.

He said the disintegration of the Janata Dal (S) had started when Mr. Kumaraswamy usurped power.

The party would be finally wrecked by either the Bharatiya Janata Party or the Janata Dal (S) legislators themselves, he added.

Denying that he was quitting the party, Mr. Sindhia said that he would maintain equidistance from all the mainstream political parties and mobilise secular leaders and workers to form a third secular front in the State.

He hoped that the people would support such a move.

Mr. Sindhia said that he was suspended because he did not yield to the party chief's wishes.

He would survive this situation, he said.

The union's district unit president Venkata Lakshmiah and general secretary K.G. Nagalakshmi Bai spoke.
