VISAKHAPATNAM: G. Vadivelu of Services and L. Monika Devi of Police retained their men's and women's 69 kg category titles respectively in the senior National weightlifting championships at the Swarna Bharathi Indoor Stadium here on Tuesday. Late on Monday evening, P. Sudalai Muthu of Railways won the 62 kg category in a keen competition with last year's third place winner K. Pujari of Services. Vadivelu cleared 160 kg in his final attempt in clean and jerk for a total of 283 kg, pipping G. Elumalai of Railways by one kg for the gold. This was four kg less than what he had achieved in Yamuna Nagar last year. Elumalai did better in snatch, clearing 127 kg to Vadivelu's 123kg but failed to lift 160 kg in his final attempt in clean and jerk and lost the first place.
