Speaker invites Karaikal legislators for talks

It follows announcement of boycotting Assembly

Puducherry: Speaker R. Radhakrishnan has invited all the six legislators of the Karaikal district for a joint discussion here on December 14 to listen to their grievances and to persuade them to drop their plan of boycotting the coming winter session of the Assembly slated for December 15.

An official source told newsmen here on Tuesday that the Speaker had sent letters individually to each of the six legislators.

The six legislators had announced on Monday that they would boycott the session to mark their protest against the continued neglect of Karaikal in all development activities.

The Speaker wants to evolve a compromise as the coming session is expected to deal with important agenda including powers for newly elected civic bodies in the Union Territory. Of the six legislators one is an Independent, two belong to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam including the opposition leader A.M.H. Nazeem, and one each belong to the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Puducherry Munnetra Congress.
