DUBAI: A bomb went off at the gate of the golden domed Shia mosque in Samarra on Tuesday. Initial reports suggest that an explosive device had been placed along the entrance of the monument. Despite its early detection, the bomb disposal team that was in the process of defusing the explosives could not prevent its detonation. However, the explosion has not caused any significant damage to the building. The shrine to two revered Shia imams was badly damaged on February 22 by a massive blast, sparking a wave of Sunni-Shia sectarian killings.
