`Made to create sensation, maybe for TRP reasons'

VETERANS AT BJP MEET: The former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, with the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, L.K. Advani, at the BJP parliamentary party meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday. After the meeting, BJP president Rajnath Singh said that the pre-telecast press release of Mr. Advani's remarks about Mr. Vajpayee in an interview on CNN-IBN were "nothing but a case of reporting with malicious intent."

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party, which has faced some embarrassment over the excerpts released by a TV channel of an interview with senior party leader L.K. Advani, on Tuesday called the pre-telecast press release of the programme as "reporting with malicious intent."

The party found a whole lot of difference between the context in which Mr. Advani had spoken and the pre-telecast press release of the interview with the former Deputy Prime Minister.

The release was nothing but a case of reporting with malicious intent. It was made out to create sensation about the programme before its telecast ... maybe for TRP reasons, BJP president Rajnath Singh said as he emerged from the parliamentary party meeting.

News reports based on the excerpts left the party in an awkward situation for a day with Mr. Advani quoted as saying that he would be the BJP's candidate for Prime Minister but he did not expect party veteran Atal Bihari Vajpayee to endorse his candidacy.

Mr. Advani said his role in the party was that of a consultant now, according to the excerpts released by the channel. — PTI
