Left seeks support for general strike
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI:
The Left parties have decided to enlist the support of non-Bharatiya Janata Party, non-Congress parties for the December 14 general strike.
The nationwide strike has been called by Left-affiliated trade unions to protest against the economic policies of the Manmohan Singh Government, the price rise and other related issues.
"We have decided to seek the support of the non-BJP, non-Congress parties, and will hold a meeting on Wednesday," Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Basudeb Acharia said here on Tuesday.
Leaders of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Telugu Desam Party had been invited for the meeting.
Besides raising the issue in Parliament, the MPs also plan to take part in the protest outside.
