LUDHIANA: Industry experts are upbeat at the Centre's recent decision to set up Integrated Check Posts (ICP) at Attari in Amritsar, which will give the much needed impetus to export of vegetables and other industrial goods from Punjab to Pakistan. ``Lack of godown and cold storage facilities and trade through only one main gate were the main impediments in the promotion of export from Punjab to Pakistan,'' Engineering Export Promotion Council Regional Chairman S C Ralhan said adding the government's move of improving infrastructure by setting up ICP would improve export from Punjab. The Union Home Ministry has recently decided to build multi-faceted ICP at Attari on fast track at the cost of Rs 85 crore on Public Private Partnership model. The project, on completion would have various facilities including cold storage and banks among other things. The state government would acquire 45 hectares of land for providing these facilities. It has also decided to spend Rs 19 crore on the upgradation of Attari railway station.
Total export to Pakistan from Wagah (road route) as well as Attari (rail route) was worth Rs 485.59 crore
