Haryana Govt. releases funds

Restoration of monuments in the State

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has so far released Rs. 2.55 crores for the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) for restoration and renovation of ancient buildings and monuments in Haryana, said Archaeology and Museums Minister Meena Mandal here on Tuesday.

She said Rs. 53 lakhs had been released to the ASI for renovation of `Jahaj Kothi' in Hisar, Rs. 17 lakhs for the Budha Stupas located at Chaneti in Yamunanagar, and Rs. 1.85 crores for renovation of various monuments in Narnaul.

Ms. Mandal revealed that many ancient seals, coins, stones, statues, toys and so on had also been excavated by the Archaeology Department. Musical instruments and weapons of historical significance had been dug out during these excavations works that had been kept in a museum. The department had recently established a regional museum at Jahaj Kothi in Hisar and financial aid had been released for renovation and maintenance of this museum, she added.

Renovation work at the historic Bheema Devi Temple in Pinjore had already been initiated and a museum had been set up in the temple premises. Ms. Mandal disclosed that another museum had also been set up by the Battles of Panipat Memorial Society for displaying information and material related to the three famous Battles of Panipat. Renovation and restoration works of other historical monuments had also been taken up this financial year. Financial aid totalling Rs. 10 lakhs had been received from the Union Government for renovating Dehra Temple, built in the 14th Century, and a Jain Temple. Cleaning and renovation of the European Cemetery in Ambala had also been started. Also, the ancient Shiva temple of Salwan, which belonged to the Mahabharta era, had been taken under State custody and its renovation had been started.
