Two road-overbridges to be completed by 2007

SCR official hints at sanctioning more funds to Guntur division


  • Rs 2.5 crores to be given for development activities
  • Railway users submit memo to SCR General Manager

    GUNTUR: Kankaragunta and Manipuram road-overbridges (ROBs) in Guntur will be completed by March 2007, South Central Railway General Manager D.N. Mathur has said.

    The Guntur railway division was given Rs. 5 crores so far after its formation for developmental activities and another Rs. 2.5 crores would be given soon, Mr. Mathur said during his short visit to the city as part of his inspection of the division on Tuesday.

    The General Manager, along with Divisional Railway Manger C.S. Chauhan, arrived at the Guntur railway station in the evening from Nandiyal.Guntur MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao talked to him several times and pursued the matter of completion of both the ROBs at the earliest, he said, and added that the Railways was making best efforts to complete them.

    Mayor's plea

    Guntur Mayor Kanna Nagaraju met Mr. Mathur and brought to his notice the need to widen the road in Nehru Nagar along the railway track and the danger at the unmanned level crossing.

    The General Manager appreciated the authorities for maintaining a Cyber Café at the station and spent some time browsing the Railway and IRCTC sites.

    The South Central Railway Employees' Sangh and Guntur Divisional Railway Users' Association submitted memorandum to the visiting official.

    While railway workers sought sanction of an office `PREM' at the divisional headquarters, the railway users wanted restoration of the old timings for the Repalle-Secunderabad Delta Passenger as the new timings were not at all convenient to a majority of the people using the train.
