India finishes eighth

Doha: India finished eighth in the women's handball competition after losing 20-43 to Thailand in the Asian Games here on Tuesday.

The Indian women, seeking to make an impression in the last match, did not have the defensive skills to counter the Thailand players in the match to decide the seventh and eighth places at the Al Gharrafa Indoor Hall. Thailand had taken a comfortable 25-9 lead by half-time and consolidated its position in the second half as well to thoroughly outplay the Indians.

Anita Kumari was the pick of the Indian players with five points while Sangita Tiwari, Juliet Lawrence, Karishma Sahu and Anamika Mukherjee chipped in with three points each.

For Thailand, Pattarasiri Thanawat was the top scorer with eight points. — PTI
