Demand for appointment of efficient officers for KCC Bank

DHARWAD: Members of Karnataka Rajya Prathamika Krishi Pattina Sahakara Sangha and Bankagala Naukarara Mahamandala along with several farmers staged a protest in Dharwad on Tuesday urging for change of the senior officials in charge of Karnataka Central Cooperative (KCC) bank and take early steps for revival of the bank.

The protesters took out a protest march from Kadapa Maidan to the office of the Deputy Commissioner here and then held a demonstration there.

They also handed over a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad regarding immediate steps to be taken in the interest of the farmers and for reviving the ailing bank.

Later addressing presspersons, K. Mahantappa, president of the Mahamandala and K.V. Hiregoudra, vice-president and other office-bearers said that the officials, who were in charge of the bank, were not competent enough to revive the bank.

Non-agricultural loans

J. Kotreshi, managing director of the bank, had failed in bringing the bank back on the right track. He could not recover non-agricultural loans from influential persons who have failed to pay back huge amounts of loan taken, they alleged.

They also alleged that B.H. Manjappa, the previous MD of the bank, was responsible for illegal appointments and withholding of financial assistance required for the revival of the bank. They demanded his transfer.

Need for committee

There is an urgent need for constituting a committee of senior people involved in the cooperative movement and give them the responsibility of reviving the bank, they said.

They urged the State Government to chalk out a programme for disbursement of timely salary to the employees of the bank and also set up a joint sub-committee to solve administrative problems and coordinate between the staff, officials and customers.

They urged the Government to come out with an acceptable solution before December 31. Otherwise they would be forced to intensify their agitation.
