DISCUSSING KEY ISSUES: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi at the Congress Working Committee meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday.

NEW DELHI: The Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Tuesday endorsed the Manmohan Singh Government's stand on the New Delhi-Washington nuclear deal as articulated in Parliament, welcomed the resumption of India-Pakistan composite dialogue and expressed concern over price rise.

Briefing correspondents, general secretary Janardan Dwivedi said External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee outlined the contours of the India-United States nuclear deal in the light of the passage of the law by the U.S. Congress.

"The party agrees with what the Minister said in Parliament on Tuesday," Mr. Dwivedi said. Mr. Mukherjee also briefed the CWC on the recent visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao and the focus of talks.

As for price rise, the CWC members asked the Government to control it. The Prime Minister explained the measures already initiated to hold the price line and gave the assurance that further steps would be taken to check the prices.

No other matter came up for discussion at the nearly three-hour long meeting, Mr. Dwivedi said.

Party sources indicated that Mr. Mukherjee, during his briefing, reiterated that Arunachal Pradesh was an integral part of India. The Government took note of the latest statements from Islamabad vis-à-vis Kashmir.

G. Venkataswamy sought to raise the issue of Telangana, especially in the light of the outcome of the Karimnagar Lok Sabha by-election. However, it was suggested that since the item was not on the agenda, the matter could be taken up later.
