Staff Correspondent

  • Review meeting of Karnataka Development Programme held
  • `Progress in implementing schemes not on expected lines'

MANGALORE: All 203 gram panchayats in the district will go online from January 1, 2007, Chief Executive Officer of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat A.M. Kunjappa has said.

Participating in the review meeting of Karnataka Development Programme here on Monday, Mr. Kunjappa directed the secretaries of all panchayats to buy "quality" personal computers for the purpose by the end of the month.

Instructing the secretaries to ensure that the purchase of computers is carried out in a transparent manner, Mr. Kunjappa said instructions have been issued to the panchayats in this regard last month.

He also instructed the secretaries to consult executive officers of taluk panchayats in this regard.

Mr. Kunjappa, who reviewed the progress achieved by various departments, said the progress achieved this month was 75 per cent of that achieved in November.

Noting that the progress in implementing Government schemes was not on expected lines, he instructed the officials concerned to achieve the targets set for them by utilising the grants effectively.

Implementation of adult education programme had received a setback due to constant transfers of officers, he said.

Mr. Kunjappa said details on the amount of honorarium payable to "prerakas" (motivators) and "upa-prerakas" was not available. Work in all taluks, barring Mangalore, has been satisfactory, he said. Instructions have been issued to authorities concerned to release honorarium to prerakas, he added.

Deputy Director of Department of Food and Civil Supplies Rathnakar Naik said that steps have been taken to ensure orderly supply of items through public distribution system.

A complete picture of various lacunas noticed in the system would be available once the officials go through the complaints received from consumers, he said.
