HYDERABAD: `Stop' says the red light, `go' says the green light. But what does it mean if both red and green lights glow simultaneously?

With red and green traffic signals glowing at the same time, commuters passing by the Khairatabad junction have plunged into a sea of confusion. The signal post guiding passengers coming from the Press Club side to VV Statue end, had developed some snag a couple of days ago. As a result, both red and green lights glow simultaneously. The situation turns worse after 9 p.m. when the policemen retire for the day as vehicle drivers try to outwit each other taking advantage of the faulty lights. When the traffic police called up the company that maintains the signals, they received a rude jolt as the company officials flatly refused to repair the lights. "The civic authorities owe us dues of Rs.10 lakhs. Until and unless they pay the money, we'll not even look at the signals," they reportedly told the policemen. "All we can do now is post a couple of more policemen to explain to commuters about the faulty signal system," a police officer said.
