Flower show at Lalbagh

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Ahead of the Republic Day Flower Show, look out for some real colours at the Lalbagh Glass House from December 14 to 18.

The Horticulture Department and Krishnendra Nursery have jointly organised a show of hibiscus flowers and poinsettia (Christmas plants) on those five days.

On display will be about 200 varieties of Christmas plants, grown at the unique 30-acre Krishnendra Nursery in Devanahalli.

Winter plants

The leaves of these plants become colourful with the onset of winter and stay that way from October to January/February before turning green again, nursery proprietor S.M. Krishnappa explained to presspersons here on Tuesday. The exhibition will be part of the Horticulture Department's special shows besides the Independence Day and Republic Day shows. The exhibition of roses in December 2002, national rose exhibition in 2004 and the display of medicinal and aromatic plants in 2003 were all part of the special shows, Horticulture Director G.K. Vasanthkumar said.
