NEW DELHI: "Victims" of Section 498 A of the Indian Penal Code and the new Domestic Violence Act on Tuesday urged the Centre to make the laws impartial so that innocent people are spared unnecessary harassment. At a press conference organised here by 498a.org, a non-government organisation formed to "educate society about the gender biased provisions of the provision and its misuse", Gaurav Nigam of Wipro narrated what he and his parents were going through after such a case was slapped on them. Another "victim" claimed that his in-laws got a case registered against him to force him to live with them. "Several aspects of the new Domestic Violence Act can also be exploited to harass husbands and their relatives. In other countries, there are similar laws but they are applicable to both women and men," he said. In another case, an old couple narrated the trauma they underwent after their daughter-in-law lodged a case against them and their son. 498a.org Delhi Cell coordinator J. K.
