THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Greening the State, a novel attempt to replenish the dwindling greenery of the State, was organised by the Directorate of Vocational Higher Secondary Education (VHSE) in association with the National Service Scheme Volunteers in the city on Wednesday. The tree plantation programme held at the Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Thycaud, was inaugurated by Minister for Forests Benoy Viswom. Minister for Education M. A. Baby presided over the function. As a part of the programme, more than 10,000 saplings were planted in all the 375 VHSE schools in the State. The programme was inaugurated simultaneously in all the 14-districts of the State. The Education Minister lauded the initiative saying that such programmes would engender a love for environment and trees in the minds of students. Mr. Viswom urged the students to enhance the beauty of the State by undertaking similar tree plantation ventures across the State. He also had a word of praise for the NSS in co-ordinating the initiative. The function was also attended by the VHSE director, Sajith Vijayaraghavan, deputy director, Pushpendran and M.
